Stacey's 40th - Rosettes and tassels.........

Blackboard converted from Ikea kids blackboard.
A couple of months ago I was so pleased to be asked to decorate my first event. For a while I had been thinking about event decoration and was really pleased to be given the opportunity. The customer sent me a couple of ideas from Pinterest with her theme - Rosettes and the colours red, black and white. Luckily the venue is near by and so I went to check out the space and what she wanted. We decided to go with rosettes and tassels and conventional bunting to add variety and interest whilst using the same colours.

The  rosettes were the most fun but also the most time consuming, I made just over 100 for this event but it was worth it to see the result. The Table decorations were my favourite part, they were an adaptation of the picture the client had initially sent so I knew I needed to get them right however finding something for something for the rosettes to sit in in the clients Budget was tricky as she needed 17. I had initially suggested tin cans but they just didn't  look right so in the end I went with black and white striped paper party cups which I was so pleased with. I weighed them down with an apple that supported the rosettes and covered them with black tissue paper. I was so chuffed with the result as it came in on budget and looked really fun.
In addition to the wall decorations I made an XL Rosette wall decoration that turned out to fit perfectly on the DJ box and it looked Fab!!!

The client was super excited to have a selfie frame and props so I made a matching rosette frame with sparkling red backdrop. I was a little narrow but it worked. That's definitely a lesson learnt - when it comes to backdrops - bigger is better!
The Client had some decorations left over from another event which I incorporated and adapted to match her theme. For the bunting the customer had given me the black and white stripe triangles, so I cut red and black triangles in the same size and strung them on to black waxed cotton. The candy banner had been given to me as well so for the cake I scanned and cut the shape of the bunting to match and made a cake garland adding hassle to both to incorporate it into the theme.

So all in all I was so pleased with how the event looked and most importantly so was the client. She was so sweet and opened minded with my crazy ideas. Thanks Stacey and Happy Birthday!! This fun and simple design shows that you can have a stylish and personal occasion without breaking the bank.
I even got in on the hassle action with my earrings .

There was just under 25m of bunting and garlands for this event

Bunting made from old and new bunting with extra rosette centre pieces for the buffet table.

10 Alternatives to a traditional wedding cake

Ok, so let's face it, not everyone likes cake and nobody likes the huge price tag attached to wedding cakes. But panic not! There are so many alternatives to a traditional fruit sponge that will knock your guests' socks off and in most instances, save you some pennies to put into your honeymoon G&T piggy bank. With lots of newer ideas I have intermingled some oldies but goodies. And yes we've seen them before but WHOOOAAHH MAMMA they are still good. Pour example......... 1. Cheese Towers - If you, like me, enjoy cheesy good times and teetering on the edge of a heart attack, then this is the one for you. Serve it with crackers, biscuits and slices of fruit. It will be a winner with any wedding party. And if you are in the North Wales /The North West of England, why not check out my buddies at The Little Cheesemonger in Rhuddlan, North Wales. The people there are beautiful but more importantly, the shop sells cheese, bread and Gin - enough said. Cheese towers star...

Work, life, panic, repeat.........

Last week I wrote about my struggles with anxiety, I was so overwhelmed by the lovely messages that I received afterwards, so thank you to those who read it. I know this is a craft blog and you are saying, Lowri, why don't you just show us some cards or how to make a pompom or something, and I will but I just wanted to write a quick follow up. I found it so interesting that many of the messages I received contained the same phrase ........  "It's so nice to know I am not alone". Anxiety and Depression can feel so isolating. Be it from feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, unconfident or just plain embarrassed. When you are on a downward spiral it is just easier to stay at home. Stay in bed. Stay away. But life needs to continue, right? Work, family, life obligations and the rest. If you weren't feeling shit before, having to doll yourself up, slap on a smile and go and talk to a client, manager or twatish mum at some god awful playgroup, will definatly m...

Anxiety, Apologies and starting a new......

So, I have been wanting to write this post for a while. Over the last few months I have not posted or promoted or done anything very much with Approved Crafting. I have had to let a couple lovely customers down which I absolutely despise and had to put off work. The reason? LIFE! Or more precisely the Anxiety of life. I'd like to open up a bit...... (T.M.I. ALLERT!) I am a hard working, creative, kind and reliable person. However, I am also shy, introverted, lack confidence in areas and struggle with feeling like an imposter. I have had anxiety and panic attacks since I was 18. I have had counselling, been part of studies and been on and off medication since then, all with varying success. At my best I have been just.... well... normal. At my worst I can't leave the house. But most of the time I am somewhere in between. I have had to accept that anxiety and the ups and downs it brings is just a part of my life and always will be. Starting my own business has been so m...
