Transform a kids Ikea blackboard into event signage......

I had this dirty old blackboard A frame sitting in the shed for over a year and after getting it out to take to charity, I decided to instead turn it into something else. I had a wedding coming up that needed signage and so I thought I'd give it a go.

You will need:

  • A frame
  • Masking tape
  • Sand paper
  • Mini Roller
  • Blackboard Paint
  • All surface primer/ Undercoat
  • White matt Paint
  • Chalk Pen
All the materials above I found in my garage, the frame does not have to be particularly hard wearing as it is decorative so don't feel you need to go and spend a fortune.

1. Firstly, I gave the frame a wipe down with baby wipes, then smoothed any rough edges with the sand paper and wiped it down again.

2. Tape around the blackboard/ whiteboard frame and then use the mini roller to paint the primer on. I painted everything including the white board on the back of mine. My paint was a bit blobby so when it was dried I sanded down any drips.

3. Give the frame a couple of coats of normal matt paint and leave to dry thoroughly (overnight if possible). I preferred the matt finish and it dries quicker.

4. When completely dry, remove the tape and tape around the outside of the blackboard/ whiteboard frames. then give each blackboard 2 fresh coats and wait to dry.

And BOOM!!! there you go, all fresh and new looking great for any occasion. I haven't bothered to varnish mine it might be a good idea if you are planning on using it outside.  Here are a few ideas on how to present you blackboard but I will shortly be doing a video tutorial on how to decorate your frame. Watch this Space............

10 Alternatives to a traditional wedding cake

Ok, so let's face it, not everyone likes cake and nobody likes the huge price tag attached to wedding cakes. But panic not! There are so many alternatives to a traditional fruit sponge that will knock your guests' socks off and in most instances, save you some pennies to put into your honeymoon G&T piggy bank. With lots of newer ideas I have intermingled some oldies but goodies. And yes we've seen them before but WHOOOAAHH MAMMA they are still good. Pour example......... 1. Cheese Towers - If you, like me, enjoy cheesy good times and teetering on the edge of a heart attack, then this is the one for you. Serve it with crackers, biscuits and slices of fruit. It will be a winner with any wedding party. And if you are in the North Wales /The North West of England, why not check out my buddies at The Little Cheesemonger in Rhuddlan, North Wales. The people there are beautiful but more importantly, the shop sells cheese, bread and Gin - enough said. Cheese towers star...

Top 5 Reusable and Recycled Christmas Wrap Ideas.

Christmas is just around the corner, as I am constantly reminded on TV, in the shops and by my 7 year old. I have been so busy lately that I hadn't even thought about Christmas until two family members called up to ask what my daughter wanted.                                    Christmas! but that is ages away! I thought, but as of today, it is 42 days until the big day! Only 6 weeks to frantically order this years must have toy and then panic that it won't arrive in time. Only 6 weeks to argue about who's parents to spend the big day with. Just 6 weeks to write all your christmas cards, forget to send them until the 22nd where they will be put up for one day and then chucked in the bin. Oh Christmas, how we all love it and it is truly one of the most magical times of the year but it is also the most wasteful time of the year. In 2017, an article in  The Independent ...

Wreath tutorial 2 - Re-using a display and The rule of 3

Recently I was fortunate enough to arrange flowers for my Sister in laws Wedding and she was kind enough to let me bring some home. The display came from the ceremony table, made up from artificial flowers, berries, greenery, pine cones and pheasant feathers. The display was a little too large and formal for me to just have around the house so I decided to take it to pieces and re use the flowers.              We have just moved so, there are boxes of Christmas decorations hanging around and by chance, this wreath was sitting on top of one open box. I bought it last year for no more than a couple of pounds but hadn't found anything to do with it. Until now that is....... For this display I used: 3 Burgundy Roses 3 Hydrangea flowers ( I took a full hydrangea head and dismantled it) 3 Pine Cones 3 Pheasant feathers 3 Eucalyptus sprigs a metre or 2 of ivy An artificial wreath Florist...
